When a Patient’s Life Is on the Line, There’s No Room for Exposure.
Safeguard the line. Strengthen the protection that your patients and their families are counting on. Strengthen your CLABSI prevention efforts by protecting IV-line connections from gross contamination.
What is visible:
Gross Contamination of IV Line Connections
When an IV-line connection becomes contaminated through exposure to feces, vomit, urine, or other foreign matter, clean-up is never simple.
Standard practice requires multiple steps to remove, discard and replace the contaminated line and associated components to ensure patient safety. While necessary, the process is time-consuming, disruptive to critical IV therapy, and adds undue strain in already high-stress situations. These added steps often take more than 15 minutes of valuable nursing time and add significant costs associated with the replacement of IV therapy devices, sets, accessories and medications.
What isn’t seen:
Contamination that may lead to blood stream infections
Contaminated IV-line connections provide a direct pathway for microbes to enter the patient’s blood, which can lead to a bloodstream infection. Whether the patient is a child, a parent or any loved one, the clinical and emotional consequences of a bloodstream infection can be devastating.
Bloodstream infections place added workload and emotional burden on nurses and other clinical staff members. Losing a patient, whether a child, parent or loved one, to a preventable complication is an unimaginable emotional load one should never have to carry.
Everyone pays when lines are contaminated.
